Fish Pedicure

My sister and I heard a lot about Fish Pedicure and we were very keen and excited to try out this unusual pedicure treatment which involves plunging feet into a tank full of Garra Rufa fish which then suck and nibble away dead skin cells that are on your feet. It's been massive in Japan for years.
 
The Garra Rufa fish are originally found in hot springs in Turkey and Iran. These fish produce a natural process which is similar to exfoliation by schooling together and concentrating on the areas of the skin which are in most need of treatment. The Garra Rufa concentrate on these areas of dry and infected skin simply because these are the areas from which it easiest for them to feed and obtain needed nutrients. Using this technique of nibbling and sucking, the garra rufa is able to gently peel the layer of dead skin from the foot but leaves the under layer of healthy skin untouched. During this process it is said that the fish secrete an enzyme that helps with the healing process and rejuvenation of the skin. This unique treatment that has been said to triumph over foot conditions such as psoriasis when other treatments such as medicines and creams have failed. The water in the fish spa is constantly filtered to ensure that it is always clean. The sucking and nibbling doesn't hurt at all. We would describe it as a bit of a "pins and needles" feeling. Kind of tickly and tingling. Not at all painful, and actually quite pleasant!
